Muse Image Is Meta's First Real Image Model

OHMO AI: Meta has launched Muse Image, the first image model built by its Superintelligence Labs, and wired it straight into the apps you already use. It's live now in the Meta AI app, Instagram Stories in the US, and WhatsApp in limited countries. The headline feature is also the controversial one. Tag a friend's public Instagram account in a prompt and Muse can pull their likeness into the image it generates.
The details:
The Instagram feature is on by default. Users can opt out of having their photos used, but they won't be notified when someone generates an image with their content.
Muse Image powers more than 30 new AI effects in Instagram Stories and is free for everyday creation, with a Meta One subscription required past a usage limit.
Meta claims the model beats Google's Nano Banana 2 on several benchmarks and trails only OpenAI's latest image model. Those are Meta's own figures.
A Muse Video model was previewed alongside it and is coming soon to creators and Meta AI.
Why it matters: Meta didn't build an AI image app. It put image generation inside apps three billion people already open every day, and made your friends' photos part of the toolkit. The opt-out is there, but most people will never find it. The next viral AI image of you might not be made by you.

GPT-5.6 Goes Public Tomorrow

OHMO AI: OpenAI's GPT-5.6 family, Sol, Terra, and Luna, goes public on Thursday, July 9 after the US Department of Commerce approved a broad launch. The models spent two weeks in a limited preview for government-approved partners, a step OpenAI took at the Trump administration's request under June's AI cybersecurity executive order.
The details:
Sol is OpenAI's strongest model yet, with the company calling it its most capable for cybersecurity work. It found exploit building blocks in browser testing but didn't produce a full working exploit under the conditions tested.
Pricing lands at $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output for Sol, with Terra at half that and Luna as the budget tier.
OpenAI said it doesn't believe the government preview process should become the long-term default, arguing it keeps the best tools from the people who need them.
Why it matters: This is the first frontier model release to go through a government review before the public got it. OpenAI complied and got its wide launch inside two weeks, but it also publicly pushed back on the process. How this precedent settles will shape every big model launch after it.

Claude Scanned an Entire Government in 20 Hours

OHMO AI: The Government of Alberta used Claude Code to scan 466 million lines of government code in about 20 hours, according to a case study published by Anthropic. Around 50 AI agents worked in parallel across the systems of all 27 provincial ministries, finding security vulnerabilities that traditional scanning tools had missed, then drafting fixes for engineers to review.
The details:
Alberta's Ministry of Technology and Innovation maintains roughly 1,280 applications and 3,400 code repositories, much of it old code that had never had a systematic security review.
The team estimates the same review done manually could have taken around 6.5 years. Every patch Claude proposed went through human review before shipping.
Alberta has published its full playbook as a set of open-source technical white papers so other governments can copy the approach.
Why it matters: Every government on earth is sitting on decades of aging, insecure code it can't afford to fix. Alberta just showed the job can be done in hours instead of years, and then gave the instructions away for free. Watch how many governments quietly follow.

Perplexity Bets on Nvidia's New CPU

OHMO AI: Perplexity confirmed it plans to use Nvidia's new Vera CPU, handing the chip giant an early win in a server processor market that Intel and AMD have owned for decades. Perplexity says its own testing showed Vera ran AI agent coding tasks about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs.
The details:
Nvidia expects to generate $20 billion in Vera sales by the end of this fiscal year, by the company's own forecast.
Vera is built for AI agents, which run continuously rather than in the stop-start bursts human users create. Nvidia says OpenAI, Anthropic, and Oracle also plan to use its CPUs.
Perplexity declined to say how many chips it's buying.
Why it matters: GPUs made Nvidia the most valuable chipmaker alive, but CPUs were always someone else's business. If AI agents become the main workload in data centres, the chip that runs them best wins the room, and Intel and AMD just got a serious problem in their own house.
