Welcome to OHMO AI. AI's next big fights are being fought over a metal most people have never heard of, the rules for keeping agents in check, and the tools that make the work visible. The groundwork is everything now.

CHINA
China tightens its hold on a metal AI runs on

OHMO AI: China is stepping up scrutiny of exports of indium, a niche metal used to make the high-speed optical chips inside AI data centers. Reuters reports that some buyers now face longer approvals and new end-user disclosure requests, raising fears the metal could join Beijing's export control regime.
The details:
China produces nearly 70% of the world's indium, and a European buyer was asked this year to disclose where its end users are based for the first time.
One North American buyer said approval times went from same day to several days, describing the situation as tense.
Beijing already put indium phosphide, refined from indium, on an export control list back in February 2025.
Why it matters: The AI race is usually told through chips and data centers, but the real chokepoint can be a metal most people have never heard of. Whoever controls the supply controls the pace, and right now that's Beijing.

OPENAI
OpenAI sharpens ChatGPT's health smarts for everyone

OHMO AI: OpenAI says its GPT-5.5 Instant model brings a big step up in health and wellness answers, and it's available to every free ChatGPT user. The company built the improvements with a global network of physicians who review responses and define what good looks like.
The details:
More than 230 million people a week use ChatGPT for health and wellness questions, from lab results to prepping for appointments.
On its toughest health evaluations, GPT-5.5 Instant now performs at a level comparable to OpenAI's frontier Thinking models.
Over 260 physicians across 60 countries have reviewed more than 700,000 example responses to date.
Why it matters: Free access is the headline here. Millions of people already lean on ChatGPT for health questions, so making the answers more accurate and cautious for everyone, not just paying users, is where this actually counts.
Google reveals its plan to keep AI agents in line

OHMO AI: Google DeepMind published an AI Control Roadmap, a framework for safely managing the advanced AI agents it runs inside Google. The approach treats capable agents as potential insider threats and layers security on top of model training, so there's a backstop even when the AI isn't perfectly aligned.
The details:
Trusted AI systems act as supervisors, constantly reviewing a working agent's reasoning and actions and stepping in to block harmful moves.
The team analyzed a million coding agent tasks, finding most flagged events came from overeagerness or misinterpretation, not bad intent.
Google compares the setup to a driving instructor with dual controls, granting agents more access as they prove safe behavior.
Why it matters: As AI agents start doing real work on their own, the question shifts from how smart they are to how well they can be controlled. Google is betting that safety has to be built into the system, not just the model.

ANTHROPIC
Claude Code turns your sessions into live AI-built pages

OHMO AI: Anthropic added artifacts to Claude Code, letting a coding session capture its work as a live, shareable web page. These pages, like incident timelines or pull request walkthroughs, are built from the full context of your session and update themselves as the work progresses.
The details:
Every publish creates a new version at the same link, with version history so you can restore an earlier one at any time.
Pages stay private to their author by default and can only be viewed by authenticated members of your organization.
The feature is in beta for Claude Team and Enterprise orgs, usable from the Claude Code CLI and desktop app.
Why it matters: This is a small but telling shift in how teams work with AI. Instead of explaining what an agent found, everyone just opens the same page. Less status meeting, more shared context.

“I run a small catering business and honestly the cooking was never the problem, it was the quotes. A customer would ask for a buffet for 80 people with three dietary options and I'd lose half my evening working out portions and pricing. Now I just tell the AI the headcount, the menu and my margins and it gives me a clean breakdown I can tweak. Last week I sent a quote back in about ten minutes that used to take me the whole night.”
